Picture it… The Golden Girls Theme Park!

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the premiere of The Golden Girls on NBC, and I thought it would be fun to daydream a little about a theme park based on the show! We’ve had the cafe and even a cruise so why not a theme park?

In 2009, Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty were crowned Disney Legends. Each is honored with a plaque in the Legends’ Plaza at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. And as it turns out, the new Star Wars theme park, Galaxy’s Edge, also sits atop what used to be Residential Street at Disney MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios) in Florida. Since the show is more popular then ever, I don’t think the idea for a Golden Girls theme park is so far fetched! Especially since it’s being reported that the new owners of the real Golden Girls house are installing features to block the street view. How rude! So take a moment and join me in imagining what a theme park dedicated to our favorite show might look like…

Tour the House

From the lanai to Blanche’s bedroom, guests of The Golden Girls theme park would be treated to a tour of a recreation of the iconic house upon entrance to the park. You could even pay extra for a late night Cheesecake Experience in the kitchen!

Take A Fashion Photo

Remember those old West photos that you could take after getting dressed up in historical costumes? Well, a Golden Girls theme park would of course include the opportunity to get all dolled up in fashion inspired by the show! You might have to draw straws with your friends to decide which Girl you get to dress up as… ah, who cares! The Golden Girls theme park is the place of dreams. If everyone wants to dress up as Blanche, then go for it!

St. Olaf vs. Sicily

Would you rather listen to Rose’s St. Olaf stories or Sophia’s anecdotes from Sicily? Well, at The Golden Girls Theme Park you wouldn’t have to decide because there would be a ride for each! Think “It’s A Small World” but without the annoying song.

Restaurant Row

The Golden Girls theme park would have plenty of options for grabbing a bite to eat. Mr. Haha’s Hot Dog Hacienda is the perfect option for families with kids (if you’re not afraid of or annoyed by clowns, that is). Those looking for something fancy could make a reservation at “the hangout for Miami’s literary intelligentsia.” Just don’t go looking for The Mortimer Club here. No Barbara Thorndykes or bigots allowed! And of course, you could stop by The Rusty Anchor where it’s always dollar beer night.

And, scene…

At The Golden Girls theme park you could even act out a scene of your choice from the show! Sing “Miami Is Nice” with the Girls or slam the door on Stan; thanks to a little virtual reality any of your favorite moments from the show would be possible!

Exit Through the Gift Shop

I love a good gift shop, and I can only imagine that a Golden Girls theme park would have the greatest one of all time! All of the merch on the market would be for sale as well as park exclusives. Don’t leave the park without a bag full of tchotchkes to proclaim your fandom far and wide!

How about you? What would you like to see at a Golden Girls theme park? And if you could have any two people, living or dead, to join you at the park, what would you eat? Leave a comment and let me know!

  1. Like a Disney experience, or the above-mentioned “Sicily vs St Olaf” experience, there were plenty of courtroom scenes that could be experiences also:
    1. Frieda Claxton’s Drop-dead or Save the Tree
    2. Dick Van Dyke’s Argue a Case as a Clown
    3. Uncle Angelo’s Wrath of the Bugs
