Last week The Golden Girls Fashion Corner hit 500 followers on Instagram! The blog itself also has over 700 followers on WordPress. So this is a special post to say thank you for being a friend and following along with my thoughts about the show! It’s also my last post for the year, so I’d like to take moment and reflect on a few things…

Lately I’ve found myself thinking a lot about how all of our lives have changed this year and what The Golden Girls continues to mean to us. A woman in one of the Facebook fan groups posted a photo she took from a television in the hospital of the Sophia and Dorothy as Sonny and Cher scene from the “Illegitimate Concern” episode. She mentioned how much of a comfort seeing that episode was to her, and I thought, well, gosh, if that’s just exactly what The Golden Girls is to all of us! From 1985 until 2020 it’s been a constant on television and a reminder of the things that matter most in life. So many of us continue to watch the episodes that we’ve seen countless times because they give us the warm fuzzies when the world outside is cold and scary. It’s a show that’s still timeless and relevant at the same time.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that 2020 has been a helluva year and one that we’re ready to shoot out of a canon like Mr. Terrific and hope we never hear from it again! The pandemic has undoubtedly changed things in all of our lives and will continue to do so. Personally, I lost someone that I once thought was a good friend, but I also grew even closer to others, despite only being able to connect with them thanks to technology. One of those friends kept encouraging me to start an Instagram to go with this blog, and I’m so glad I finally listened to her. It’s also been fun to find other fans and friends through this blog and on social media.

I’ve loved connecting with other fans of the show on Twitter and Instagram especially. Another friend was even so kind to surprise me with the whole set of The Golden Girls itty bittys plushes! Even if we can’t sit down and have some cheesecake together or meet in person, it’s wonderful to be able to connect through the Internet. I think the Girls would love that. Just think about how hilarious their group chat would be!
When I started this blog two years ago I wasn’t really sure where it would take me. Certainly there were already other Golden Girls websites and social media groups and pages, but I think the fandom has really grown so much in such a short amount of time. Definitely check out the Enough Wicker podcast when you have some spare time over the holidays! The hosts, Lauren and Sara, bring their hilarious perspectives to re-caps of the episodes and more. I would definitely invite them to my dinner party. But what would we eat? Hmm…

Finally, would you believe that I actually had a moment a few months ago when I thought about not writing this blog anymore? It’s true! That’s just what kind of year this has been. But I got over it, of course, and I’m already thinking about what to write in 2021. This past year I had to focus more on reviews and lists, but next year I promise I’ll get back to being fashion conscious. I’m also planning on making more progress on my All About Bea series.
I truly hope that 2021 does us all a favor by being a better year than this one was. We all deserve it! Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll continue to go down the road and back again with The Golden Girls Fashion Corner!

Thank YOU for being a great friend, and congrats on your milestones! Can’t wait til we finally can have that dinner party
